Halloween Makeup time!
Hi everyone! Halloween is here finally!! Its my favorite time of the year because I get to use my innate creativity and fun products!! In today's blog I will address body makeup, pigments and easy affordable ways to create creepy gross skin, wounds and gashes!
If you are going to be painting your face or someone else's and want vibrant full colors without streaking, fading or sweating off then I have a secret for you!! I discovered this trick while shopping on a budget to create a spiderman character for stage who didn't have the spiderman spandex suit! lol. The suit was $60.00 at costume stores so that was not an option! I decided to just paint him as spiderman! I didn't want to use traditional grease paint or the usual halloween paints you find at the target and or halloween club..they sweat off and will rub off on clothes. So I did some research on some things and decided that Crayola finger paints where the answer to all my problems! I went to walmart and bought a 12 pack of color in cute little chubby squeezable bottles and it worked amazing!! It dried rather quickly and the color stayed vibrant, did not rub off on clothes, did not crack on skin and was non-toxic so it was completely safe for skin! It has the perfect consistency for painting, large areas or small details on any part of the body. I also picked up a $3 pack of paint brushes from the crafts section of walmart! They looked just like my roll out bag of pro brushes with just as many size and angle options for any job. LUVS WALMART now!! The crayola will work as a base and for detail work as well.. such as intricate fake tattoos, leopard print, lace designs... you just have to get creative with your application.
I also luv luv luv MAC'S chroma cakes!! I have several colors but my favorite is the black cake! its water activated and has multiple uses; liquid eyeliner, tatts, large or small designs on all body parts! It will smudge if you don't let it dry fully and you should seal it with makeup sealer or if your not sensitive with aerosol hairspray on the body! It works, its awesome and my new best friend in sealing stuff on the body! :)
I had two makeup jobs the first part of October which required wrinkled or wounded skin. I needed to create a gash across the forehead and planned on using just latex and a little bit of cynawax.. but one of my clients started itching from cynawax.. which was wierd in itself.. the latex is more harsh. anyways I decided to just start texturizing and used kleenex on the skin to shield it from any more irritation and then slathered the latex on top of that. Once it starts to dry you can peel away an opening in the kleenex/latex layer and it looks like ripped, exposed flesh! I then used my $1.99 creepy skin from the Spirit Halloween store and filled the inside of the kleenex opening and splattered some blood and voila! Gash done! I of course used a little bit of a halloween makeup palette to give it a more fleshy human look and sprayed a makeup sealer over it to ensure durability.
If you are trying to age the skin, all you need is a little bit of liquid latex. applied with a makeup sponge in three to four layers. You can let it air dry or blow dry it for faster results and once completely dry it creates a wrinkled, aged look on the skin. It comes off easily with baby oil or soap and water.
If you are looking to create facial hair pieces and don't want the gawdy, obviously fake pieces from the stores and want a more realistic product then here's how you do it: Go to a halloween outlet or thrift store and pick up a couple matted, clearanced out, been dropped on the floor a thousand times wigs! They're usually on sale for no more than $5-10 and you can create handfuls of fake mustaches, eyebrows, goatees and ear and nose hairs! get a brown and black one and if you like a blonde one too. You will also need some double sided tape found in the WALMART! lingerie dept! Or you can pay double price at costume stores of Nordstroms lingerie.. if you like. You will also need some eyelash glue. Once you have those, your going to cut out shapes from the double sided tape into any shape you need.. then your going to cut the hair from the wig into any length you need. You will need to take a few hairs at a time and dip the ends in some eyelash glue then attach them to the double sided tape. Let it dry overnight and then you'll be ready to rock whatever hair piece you've created! If you use the piece more than once and it loses its stickiness you can slather some eyelash glue on the back of it and re-paste it to your face or body. Eyelash glue is non-toxic and safe for the skin.
