What is Airbrush Makeup and do I need it?
Let me first say that Airbrush Makeup is not for severely scarred skin or acneic skin, i'm sorry ladies but its true. Women with this type of skin are usually the first to ask me about airbrush and if they should invest in a professional application or thier own airbrush makeup gun for their upcoming special event. When I tell them that airbrush makeup is ideal for near perfect skin only and will not make thier problem skin look any better, the utter look of dismay or disbelief usually follows. I am then rebutted with this remark,"How come all the magazines use airbrushing to perfect imperfections on the models?" In which I politely explain that in the fashion and beauty industry there are actually two forms of Airbrushing; Airbrush makeup which is a very thin coat of waterbased foundation is sprayed lightly over skin with use of a gun and air compressor and then there is Airbrushing which is a term describing computer editing in high fashion editorial pages. This kind of airbrushing is usually the form they are confusing with actual airbrush makeup. Airbrushing your makeup on will not erase years of icepick scarring, deep acne pits and just an overall bumpy lumpy skin surface but computer airbrushing in pictures will I am glad to say. :) Now that I got that out of the way, It is pretty rare that your average cosmetics consumer will need to know how to airbrush because it is usually a practice in use only by a professional makeup artist or a suntan salon employee. If you are an aspiring makeup artist or a cosmetics junkie who would just like to have that fine skill in your toolbelt, well then you are going to have to take a class on airbrushing with certified instructors because it is really technical and tedious to learn even the basics, such as assembling and de-assembling your gun and what kinds of makeup you are allowed to use in your gun without destroying it. The classes are very informative and very expensive! I know this because I have taken them. Of course there are the easy to use airbrush kits sold in sephora that come with one brand of makeup, usually sharing the same label as the gun itself. These are fine for at home applications but not suitable for professional jobs and or applications, no matter how hard the sales girl is trying to sell you one. MAKEUP ARTISTS! buy your equipment from professional makeup artist stores or webstores and get educated on it, even if you can only afford a one day workshop! COSMETICS CONSUMERS! Unless your going to pursue a career in professional makeup or you have the time and money to spare, don't waste your money or time on professional airbrushing kits, go buy the one at sephora! lol...and thats all I have to say about that.
