Liquid eyeliner or kohl pencil??
I am always being asked this question, which is better? I actually like both; liquid eyeliner is great for instant drama and glam and will really bring out your eye color or eyeshadow and pencil is great for giving sultry smoky eyes or just clean definition without looking drag. I myself never wear the same makeup look day to day but I do have an "at work", "going out", "first date" and "everyday pretty" look and all them require different tools and products to give my eyes just the right first impression.
I know liquid eyeliner has a reputation for being too difficult to apply or too messy to mess with and although this can be true if you've never worn it but all it takes is practice, duh! A good way to start learning how to successfully apply liquid eyeliner is to pull your eye taut with one hand and rest the elbow of your other arm (the one your going to apply the liner with) against the wall next to your mirror, then your hand will be steady and can draw a straight line with ease. If you have never or have difficulty applying liquid liner I suggest that you buy the pencil with a felt tip brush because it is a little more thicker and firmer to the touch. L'oreal has a nice one for about $6-$7 sold at any drug store or walmart and even sears! I love buying my drug store cosmetics at sears because they are the same price as riteaid or CVS but you can always score a GWP (Gift with purchase) and FREE Stuff is always good! When you've had some practice and have developed a steady artist hand then you can start using eyeliner brushes or very thin tipped brushes already installed in your liquid eyeliners, I prefer these size brushes because depending upon which way you angle the brush tip you can get a fat line, medium line or a very delicate tiny line. This is a vital skill to master if you ever want to use the fabulous gel eyeliners on the market today! One last tip concerning liquid eyeliner, DO NOT LINE THE INSIDE BOTTOM LASH LINE with Liquid Liner! NO NO NO! It's dangerous and bad for your eyeballs and looks soooo tacky! Like a chola from the late 70's lol! Save your kohl pencil for that sensitive area.
A Kohl pencil has many good uses, its a great easy way to define your eyes obviously and you can get natural, intense and or sexy looks out of it. A black pencil is also a great base for super dark smokey eyes. When I'm doing dark smokey looks or just want to intensify black, dark blues, greys ect I smudge a little black eyeliner on a clean lid in the outer corner or crease wherever you want the color concentrated. Use your pinky or ring finger to blend, the heat and natural oils from your skin will soften and blend the pencil nicely, then apply your dark colors over this and it will ensure longevity into the work day or night out as well as minimize smudging or streaks. I hope this has enlightened your own beauty world and feel free to post questions if you have any!
