BB CREAMS! What's that???
Its been awhile since my last blog, i'm sorry i've just been stretched thin with my hectic life of beauty! Today I want to talk about BB creams. By now I am sure you know what that is or at least have seen or heard of one. These multi-purpose beauty balms are all the rage and nearly every cosmetic line has one now proudly displayed on their counter.
What is a Beauty Balm? Well, in a nutshell it is a moistorizer/makeup/skincare treatment/sunblock/Awesomeness! When Jesus created these ingenious and lifesaving packages of time managment, he was thinking of me! I love them! BB creams will vary in texture and coverage but most will either have a light lotion feel or a silicone based balmy texture. I like both. They allow me to slap on something quick after I've washed my face without wasting any more time on mixing foundations with moisturizer with primer... blah blah blah. That was so 2011.
I have not tried all of them but here's the rundown on the bb's that I have tried; Miracle Skin Transformer by Sarah Macnamara, a light balm comes in 9 true to skin shades with minimal coverage and mattefying abilities. This one is great for oily skin and not so great on dry skin. When used on dry skin it tends to form little rollies of product mixed with dead skin cells but this only happens when you use it sanz moisturizer. If you apply a dollop of a light day cream to dry skin, it then goes on great! Next, I purchased CG smoothers BB cream by Cover girl in a budget emergency. I was late night browsing at my local CVS store lamenting the fact that I could't buy my miracle skin at that moment and needed something for the morning regime and spotted Covergirl's version in the CG smoothers formula. I had bought the the cg smoothers cream to powder makeup in the past and loved the cooling sensation that it left me without an oily buildup. So I spent in my opinion, the best Seven dollars and ninety-nine cents ever and loved it! Its light with awesome moderate coverage. two thumbs up! I like to mix it with my maybelline fit foundation for a full coverage look when going out. The next honorable mentions include, Too faced BB cream, Origins and CHANEL's interpretation. They were all satisfactory save for CHANEL.. I'm not sure they grasped the idea of a beauty balm. It was more like a light weight primer with no shades or coverage. I thought that a bb cream was supposed to effortlessly merge you skincare and makeup routine but with this one, I still needed foundation. Boo! Yes I'm a product junkie and have put numerous balms on my skin and enjoyed every minute of it, so next in line are Hydroxatones BB cream and The Bodyshop's. Hydroxatone's is awesome but sadly only come in three not so universal shades. I put on the darkest one, a supposed "Tan" but it turns out that it was more of a light beige or ivory. I had to mix the sample I got with a foundation that was too dark for me to get the color right. I hope that they will be producing more women of color friendly shades. Drum roll please.... and the award for the most fabulous BB cream ever goes to.. The body shop! I tried it on today and was amazed at its color adapting technology, light weight foaminess and surprisingly full coverage. Wow!! My only comlaint is that for its $20.00 pricetag, its comes in a itsy bitsy tube that i'll use up in less than two weeks! I bought it anyway!
In closing, I think everyone should try a BB cream, its time saving, healthier for your skin and gives you that flawless real skin look; you know, that Lancome airbrushed porcelain skin look that we all envision for ourselves. For all my MAC addicts.. if you must have that laquer look you can mix a BB cream with any of your fave foundations and still have a bit more of a healthier mix than foundation alone. Go buy some bb creams!
